What They Are Looking For

The business is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Data Centre Commercial Lead to join its London-based team. This is a senior role responsible for the commercial leadership and performance of complex, long-term projects, working closely with project directors and regional commercial leadership.

The role has been created to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of high-tech projects across London and wider European markets. The successful candidate will take ownership of commercial strategy, financial performance, and contractual governance across major schemes, ensuring consistent delivery of profitable outcomes.

Importantly, prior data centre experience is not essential. The organisation is open to candidates from Tier 1 main contractor backgrounds with strong experience in large-scale, technically complex projects, who are looking to transition into the mission-critical sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial function on major high-tech construction projects, ensuring strong financial performance and contractual compliance.

  • Oversee cost control, forecasting, and reporting, including accurate CVRs and financial analysis.

  • Manage contractual obligations under main contracts and subcontracts, ensuring robust governance and risk management.

  • Lead the identification and negotiation of variations, change events, and claims.

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies across major work packages.

  • Provide commercial leadership to project teams, ensuring consistency in reporting and best practice.

  • Support senior leadership with commercial strategy, performance analysis, and decision-making.

Criteria for the Role

  • Proven experience operating as a Commercial Manager or Commercial Lead within a Tier 1 main contractor environment.

  • Strong background delivering large-scale, complex construction projects.

  • Experience in high-specification sectors such as commercial, infrastructure, life sciences, or advanced manufacturing is advantageous.

  • Strong commercial, financial, and contractual acumen with a track record of delivering profitable outcomes.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
