Job Description

GEDON Executive is seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a prominent and expanding construction firm in Glasgow, Scotland. This is a pivotal role for a driven professional ready to take the commercial lead on significant projects and contribute to the growth of a dynamic organisation.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the full commercial management of large-scale construction projects, from inception through to final account. You will be instrumental in ensuring meticulous cost control, contractual precision, and profitable delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Leadership: Take lead responsibility for all quantity surveying aspects of major construction projects.

  • Cost Management: Prepare comprehensive cost plans, budgets, and forecasts. Implement robust cost control measures to ensure projects are delivered within budget.

  • Contract Administration: Administer complex contracts, including procurement, tendering, and the diligent valuation and negotiation of variations and claims.

  • Risk Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Reporting: Prepare accurate and insightful commercial reports, cost value reconciliations, and financial statements for internal and client stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise effectively with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and project managers.

  • Mentorship: Mentor and support junior members of the commercial team, contributing to their professional development.

 

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive Experience: Proven experience (typically 7+ years) as a Quantity Surveyor within the UK construction market.

  • Leadership Acumen: Demonstrated ability to lead projects and manage the commercial aspects with confidence.

  • Commercial Prowess: Exceptional commercial awareness, strong analytical and numerical skills, with a meticulous eye for detail.

  • Contractual Proficiency: Expert knowledge of relevant standard forms of contract (e.g., JCT, NEC) and procurement strategies.

  • Communication: Superior communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of managing complex stakeholder relationships.

  • Qualifications: A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics. Professional accreditation (e.g., RICS, CICES) is highly desirable.
