Job Description

Company Overview

Our client is a highly respected consultancy and project management firm with a strong presence across Australia's major building and infrastructure sectors. Operating across the full project lifecycle — from early-stage advisory and feasibility through to procurement, delivery and commissioning — they have built an enviable reputation for providing technically rigorous, commercially astute services on some of the most complex and high-value projects in the country.

The business works with a broad and distinguished client base spanning government agencies, tier-one developers, infrastructure authorities and private sector organisations. Their deep sector expertise and integrated delivery model allow them to provide genuine strategic value at every stage of a project, from master planning and cost planning through to construction management and handover.

With a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming major projects — across transport infrastructure, health, education, defence and large-scale commercial development — the business is in a period of sustained growth. As a result, they are investing in their technical estimating capability, creating an opportunity for an experienced Senior SMP Estimator to join the team and play a leading role in securing and delivering work at the highest level.

This is a business where expertise is genuinely valued and where talented individuals are given the autonomy, resources and support to produce their best work. Culture is professional and collegiate, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and career progression.

Working Environment & Projects

You will be joining a high-performing estimating and commercial team working across a diverse portfolio of major building and infrastructure projects. These are complex, multi-disciplinary programmes with significant SMP scope, demanding a high level of technical knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to coordinate across engineering, procurement and construction workstreams.

The team operates in a fast-paced but highly collaborative environment, where estimators are expected to take full ownership of their bids and work closely with project managers, engineers and client teams to produce submissions that are technically credible, commercially competitive and clearly differentiated. Senior team members play a key role in shaping bid strategy and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

You will gain exposure to the full range of estimating activities on major projects — from early-stage cost modelling and scope development through to detailed take-offs, subcontractor engagement, risk analysis and final tender submission. The variety and scale of the project portfolio provides a rich and stimulating environment for an experienced estimator looking to work on truly significant schemes.

Based in Brisbane, this is a predominantly office-based role with regular engagement across project and client environments, within a business that offers a genuinely supportive culture, strong technical peers and the resources to produce high-quality, competitive bids.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of detailed SMP estimates and tender submissions for major building and infrastructure projects
  • Undertake comprehensive take-offs and quantity analysis across structural, mechanical and piping scopes of work
  • Develop and manage subcontractor and supplier engagement processes, including scope preparation, enquiry and assessment
  • Conduct thorough risk analysis and contribute to bid strategy, ensuring estimates are commercially robust and competitively positioned
  • Coordinate with internal project management, engineering and commercial teams to ensure alignment across all bid inputs
  • Review and interpret contract documents, specifications and drawings to inform accurate and defensible cost models
  • Contribute to post-tender reviews, value engineering exercises and lessons-learned processes to continuously improve bid quality
  • Mentor and support junior estimators within the team, sharing technical knowledge and best practice
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners throughout the bid and award process

What You Need

  • Proven experience as a Senior Estimator with a strong focus on SMP (Structural, Mechanical & Piping) scopes on major construction or infrastructure projects
  • Solid technical understanding of structural, mechanical and piping systems and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
  • Track record of successfully delivering competitive, high-value tenders in a consultancy, contractor or owner's representative environment
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in risk identification, cost modelling and subcontractor market engagement
  • Excellent analytical skills with high proficiency in estimating software and standard industry tools
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related technical discipline preferred
  • Eligible to work in Australia and based in or willing to relocate to Brisbane

What You'll Get in Return

This role offers a highly competitive salary package of $210,000 AUD or above, commensurate with experience, alongside a comprehensive suite of benefits. You will have the opportunity to take a senior, high-impact estimating role on some of Australia's most significant building and infrastructure programmes, within a business that is widely recognised for the quality of its people and the depth of its technical expertise. For the right candidate, this is a platform to further develop your career in a business that genuinely invests in its people and offers a clear pathway into senior commercial and leadership positions.
