Job Description

About Our Client
We are partnered with a leading international contractor delivering some of the most complex, high-value construction programmes across the UK and Europe. The organisation is recognised for its ability to deliver mega-scale facilities across mission-critical, advanced manufacturing, commercial, and high-specification sectors, supported by strong governance, technical expertise, and a highly sophisticated commercial function.

Their portfolio spans multiple concurrent large-scale developments across key European markets, with a focus on complex builds requiring advanced planning, commercial discipline, and integrated delivery strategies. With a strong forward pipeline and continued international growth, the business operates at the forefront of high-performance construction delivery.

As an employer of choice, the organisation offers senior professionals the opportunity to operate at a strategic level, working closely with executive leadership to influence commercial performance across a diverse and high-value project portfolio.

What They Are Looking For

The business is seeking a highly strategic and commercially astute Commercial Manager to operate as a key second-in-command to the Commercial Director. This is not a traditional project-based commercial role, but a portfolio-level position focused on advisory, governance, and the implementation of best-in-class commercial strategies across multiple major programmes.

The role has been created to strengthen commercial performance across a growing international portfolio, ensuring consistency, risk mitigation, and optimisation of financial outcomes at scale. Working closely with senior leadership, the successful candidate will support the development and execution of commercial frameworks, drive performance improvements, and provide critical insight across live and upcoming projects.

This position will suit a senior commercial professional who enjoys strategic influence over operational delivery, rather than day-to-day package management. It is particularly well suited to individuals seeking to step away from constant site pressures, travel demands, and supply chain management, while still playing a key role in the success of landmark projects.

Why This Role Is Unique

This is a rare opportunity to move into a true strategic commercial position within a Tier 1 international contractor, offering influence across an entire portfolio of high-value projects rather than a single scheme. You will work directly with executive leadership, shaping commercial strategy and driving performance at a regional and international level.
The role provides the opportunity to remain deeply connected to major project delivery without the day-to-day pressures of site-based commercial management. It offers a clear pathway into senior commercial leadership, with exposure to decision-making at the highest level of the organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a key advisor to the Commercial Director on commercial strategy, governance, and performance across the project portfolio.
  • Support the development and implementation of robust commercial frameworks, processes, and best practices across multiple projects.
  • Analyse commercial performance data across projects, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive consistency in commercial reporting, forecasting, and financial controls across regional teams.
  • Provide strategic input into major project decisions, including risk positioning, procurement approaches, and contract strategies.
  • Support project commercial teams in resolving complex issues and improving commercial outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the commercial function at a regional and international level.

Criteria for the Role
  • Proven experience operating at Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial level within a Tier 1 contractor environment.
  • Strong background in large-scale, technically complex projects across sectors such as mission-critical, commercial, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels within a commercial function.
  • Excellent commercial, financial, and analytical capability with a focus on performance improvement.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior leadership.
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.

What’s On Offer
A highly competitive executive-level salary reflective of your experience and strategic capability, circa €140,000
A rare, non-traditional Commercial Manager role with reduced travel and no direct package ownership responsibilities.
The opportunity to influence commercial performance across a major international project portfolio.
Clear progression toward senior commercial leadership roles within a leading global contractor.
A high-performance environment with strong systems, leadership access, and long-term career stability.
